The Carnival is Over | Carnival 2011 Trinidad & Tobago

That all she wrote my friends... Well not so fast, we still have "Champs in Concert" but until then we can nurse our aching feet and hang overs and give praise for a wonderful Carnival celebration. I have to thank the people who gave us CarnivalTV in High Definition... Simply Marvelous!
The service was free and the quality was simply sensational. The service was free of charge and the feed did not "stick" as did many of the paid feeds. Trinizagada says thank you to the people at "Advance Dynamics Limited and Beach House Entertainment" for providing such a wonderful service...

Calypso Monarch Results 2011 | Karen Asche | Trinidad

Talk about upset!  
Karen Asche sang "Be Careful What Yuh Ask For" and "Uncle Jack" and upset the 'Calypso World' by taking home the coveted title of Calypso Monarch of Trinidad and Tobago!  Karen beat out Sugar Aloes and Chalkdust into 2nd and 3rd places respectfully to take the $2M. prize. This result came as a surprise to many who expected Kurt Allen to take the crown once again however he finished in 6th place.

Soca Monarch Results 2011 | Power & Groovy Soca

Machel Montano took advantage of some very poor performances from his peers and took home the $2M first prize last night. The Power Soca results were as follows:

• First Place: Machel Montano  "Advantage" $2M
• Second Place: Neil Iwer George $600,000
• Third Place: Bunji Garlin $300,000
• Fourth Place: Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez $200,000

In The Groovy Soca category the reigning monarch Shurwayne Winchester sang a patriotic song that was disappointing because it lacked the spirit of carnival. On the other hand Kes Dieffenthaler aka Kes had the stadium dancing to the beat of "Wotless"; he won first place and a paycheck of $500,000.  The results were as follows:

Kaisorama results 2011 | Extempo, Political, Humorous & Social Categoris

Politics and Kaiso will always go hand in hand with the Calypsonian brazenly saying what everyone else may be saying quietly. In the Extempo competition the topic for the finals was "Government - Then and now". There is an undercurrent of PNM vs the current People's Partnership government so this was a very interesting topic that was handled well by the participants. 

First off the current champion (Minister Gypsy Peters) did not compete for obvious reasons. Lingo was swept aside this year into fifth place leaving the finalists of the 2003 competition to battle for the $100,000 first prize. In the end Sheldon John (winner 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006) lifted the prize from Phillip "Black Sage" Murray who took the second prize of $70,000. In third place was Leslie-Ann Bristow who received $20,000 for her efforts. 

In the political calypso category Karene Asche took first place singing "Uncle Jack". In second place was Eric Taylor aka "Pink Panther who sang a calypson entitled "Chalkie Say". The crowd seemed to have favored Mr. Taylor who placed second. In third place was Dr. Hollis "Chalkie" Liverpool who sang his composition entitled "Manningitis". 

In the humorous cagetory Wilfred "Young Creole" Barker won with his composition entitled "Shave Meh Barberman". He beat out Victor Mc Donald aka "Mr. Mack who sang "Crooks Family" and Winston Noel aka Daz who sang "Fork in Napkin". 

Finally in the Social category Devon Seale singing "Ah need meh Carnival" competed against Carlos James aka "Skatie" who sang "Obeah man advice" and Phillip Murray aka "Black Sage" who sang "Thank God for T&T. This category was won by Devon Seales followed by Carlos James and Phillip Murray in third place.
